A picture is worth a thousand words (or more)

Hi everyone so this week I am going to let the beauty of the campus speak for itself with the pictures I took yesterday. I know I am not a professional photographer so they are not the best pictures but I think they will at least start to portray the beauty of campus to everyone. If you are around the Kansas City area stop by while the Tulips are still in bloom.

Just Registered

Just Registered
Hi everyone, believe it or not it is class registration time once again for all the Honors Students at Rockhurst. One of the perks that comes with being in the Rockhurst Honors Program is that you get to register for your classes early. It seems so early to be registering for classes already but I was looking at the Calendar and we only have 3 full weeks of classes left after this week due to Easter break in there. The end of this semester will mark the half way point for me in my four years here at Rockhurst which is pretty crazy to think about.
The weather has been so awesome here it feels more like May than March. They Residence life office even turned on the A/C this week which is another crazy thought back in Chicago I am still used to having snow days until about this time of year. The last two nights I have taken so time in the evening to just walk around campus and enjoy the peacefulness of it all. It is really something special to walk around see the flowers starting to bloom and hearing the Rockhurst fountains back on.
This is another crazy week for me but I am finally beginning to accept the fact that all weeks in college are crazy. I have an exam today and on Wednesday. I have a paper due tomorrow and another rough draft of a paper due next week. The paper I have due this week is 10-pages long and the one I have due next week is also 10 pages long.
Well I hope everyone has a great week! I will try to post some pictures from around campus soon.

A great random quote I came across. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.--“I have the audacity to believe that peoples everywhere can have three meals a day for their bodies, education and culture for their minds, and dignity, equality and freedom for their spirits.”

Sorry its been a while...Finding God in All things.

Hi everyone sorry its been a while. Its midterms part 2 this week. More about spring break will come later this week.

Here is what I wrote for a reflection that is going out to all the students this week. Each week one student is asked to write a reflection about finding god in all things.

“Nothing is more practical than finding God, that is, than falling in a love in a quite absolute, final way. What you are in love with, what seizes your imagination will affect everything. It will decide what will get you out of bed in the mornings, what you will do with your evenings, how you spend your weekends, what you read, who you know, what breaks your heart, and what amazes you with joy and gratitude. Fall in love, stay in love, and it will decide everything.” Fr. Pedro Arrupe S.J.

In my two years at Rockhurst I have felt the warmth of God’s presence and love in countless ways. I felt this as I entered Rockhurst with our entire class giving up a few hours to do service before embarking on our journey here. Additionally I have continued to find God and fall in love with him through the retreats offered by campus ministries, conversations with friends and speakers on campus like Fr. Boyle.

When I traveled to Haiti with a group of Rockhurst students over winter break I experienced falling in love with God once again. I not only found God in the people we met but I found God in each person in our group. I remember constantly thinking over the week our group was truly in love with helping to empower others. The group had agreed to take on a multi-year project to help the people of Duchity, Haiti. I think to myself that truly we all felt the love of God leading us to go on this trip. Throughout the whole trip I just felt like God was there, blessing us with safe travels, productive meetings, memorable experiences that will not soon be forgotten, good weather and great conservation. There is something special when you are with a group of people that are called by a common love and are all on the journey to find God.

So I encourage you in the spirit of Pedro Arrupe to let yourself fall in love with God.
